Leaving the Scene of an Accident

Leaving the Scene of an Accident (Florida Statute 316.0611) – The driver of any vehicle involved in a crash resulting in damage to his or her vehicle or any other vehicle is required to immediately stop his or her vehicle at the scene or as close thereto as possible. Contrary to popular belief, you can be charged with this crime even if you park your vehicle 50 yards away from the crash scene and call the police or even if you go home and call the police. Any conviction will result in six (6) points being assessed against the citizen’s driving record. This is a 2nd Degree Misdemeanor
